What is the RHI

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a UK Government scheme set up to promote the usage of renewable heat technologies among householders, communities and businesses through the provision of financial incentives.

The UK Government expects the RHI to make a significant contribution towards their 2020 ambition of having 12 per cent of heating coming from renewable sources.

The scheme is being administered by OFGEM on behalf of the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI).

In essence the Scheme pays householders, communities and businesses a tariff for each kWh of heat that they produce and utilise in a “Eligible heat use) manner.

The intention is that the participants in the scheme will invest in a the equipment to utilise a suitable approved technology(see approved technology tab) and that then their capital costs would be offset by very attractive tariffs over a twenty year period. Im many cases this tariff would be equal or greater than the operating cost of the system effectively resulting in “Free Heat”.
