10 Benefits of Solar Electricity in 2022

In News

Solar electricity has been a highly talked about matter throughout 2022, with many people having different opinions on the topic. Despite some opinions, the hard science has provided us with facts and figures on the benefits of solar electricity. The sun provide enough energy in one hour to meet the global energy needs for one year. Without a doubt, the sun is a powerful energy source and unfortunately, we are unable to utilize all the energy the sun generates however harnessing as much energy is a critical factor in creating a more sustainable future.

10 Benefits of Solar Electricity

  1. Reduce Your Electricity Bills

Solar panels will meet a substantial amount of your energy requirements, reducing your energy bills significantly. Savings will depend on the size of your solar panel system and the rate of electricity you use.  For example, if you are a large business installing commercial solar panels, you are likely to see more benefits due to the commercial rooftop space meaning the solar system you install can be much large than what a small business may be able to install.

With both commercial and residential solar systems you have the option to install a battery backup which will allow you to store the excess energy your system generated throughout the day and can be used at a later date or at night.

  1. Provides Clean, Renewable Energy

Solar electricity is clean, emissions-free and a renewable source, unlike fossil fuels solar does not emit harmful pollutants or greenhouse gas emissions into our environment. By decreasing air pollution, solar energy can prevent environmental damage and save more than 25,000 lives. Renewable energy technologies are the key to a cleaner and brighter future.

  1. Low Maintenance Costs

Solar energy systems generally require low maintenance. See more information on solar panel maintenance here. The rain in Ireland is particularly suited for keeping your solar panel system clean. It is suggested that you clean your solar panels once a year depending on how dirty they may get. There are no moving parts meaning little to no wear and tear. The cables may need maintenance to ensure your solar panel system runs to its maximum potential.

  1. Technological Development

Technology is continuously advancing and improving with new industry developments. Innovations can potentially increase the effectiveness of solar panels by doubling the electrical input of the solar system. The systems today greatly outperform the systems developed a decade ago.

  1. Increase Property Value

Installing solar panels will increase the overall property value of your building while also increasing its BER rating making solar panels a long-term investment.

  1. Impacts on Water Pollution

Energy generation with the help of renewable energy can reduce water pollution. Solar pv panels do not require water to create electricity. If you look at other modes of energy production most require water as a cooling agent which will then incur harmful substances being released into the waterway.

  1. Reduced dependence on traditional energy sources

Among the many benefits of solar energy, some would suggest the most important benefit is that solar energy is 100% renewable source of energy. Solar Energy can be harnessed anywhere in the world. Solar panel installations are the right way going forward to help reduce your dependence on traditional energy sources such as fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are not renewable with a high potential of them running out in the near future. Solar energy is clean and does not negatively impact our environment, unlike fossil fuels which cause significant harm and contribute to the destruction of our planet. Therefore, choosing to go renewable with solar is an effective way to help protect our environment against further damage.

  1. Gives you control over your electricity

By installing solar panels you will save on electricity costs as the solar panel system gives you control over the electricity and reduces your reliance on grid-connected electricity.

  1. Energy Production during Peak Hours

Ireland’s energy demand tends to be higher between 11am and 4pm,  this is naturally the period where the price of electricity peaks. Electricity produced during these times are at a higher value than if it was at night. However solar energy happened to reach its maximum production during these hours resulting in reduced electricity costs.

  1. Provides Grid Security

With solar electricity, you are less likely to experience ‘blackouts’. Blackouts occur when there is an interruption between the power generator and the supply of electricity to your property. This can stem from inclement weather conditions, human error, equipment failure or even animal interference. By having your own electricity supply through solar panels you do not rely on the grid supply to provide your property with electricity.
