Enerpower were delighted to attend the Lidl Sustainability Summit 2023, at their Lidl headquarters in Tallaght. The event was not only an insightful look into Lidl’s remarkable sustainability journey, but also a look at the sustainable business practices enforced by suppliers.
The Day Entailed:
The Sustainability Summit at Lidl was an organised event that spanned a full day of thought-provoking discussions and interactive activities. The structure of the day was thoughtfully designed to maximise engagement and foster meaningful conversations around the issue of sustainability. Enerpower were thrilled to discuss the renewable energy solutions that are available.
J.P Scally, CEO of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, commenced with a warm welcome. He emphasised Lidl’s commitment to sustainability and their vision for the future. There were many speakers that followed, all who gave perspective and insight into sustainability and how everyone can contribute to a better future.
Owen Power, Managing Director of Enerpower was a part of a panel discussing how the integration of renewable energy delivers effective energy resilience and carbon reductions for Irish businesses.
Lidl’s Sustainable Initiatives
Lidl’s commitment to sustainability is a reality deeply embedded in their operations. Some of the remarkable initiatives were highlighted during the Market Stall phase of the event.
Such as Elaine O’Connor, Head of Sustainability at Lidl Ireland, and Northern Ireland, demonstrated how Lidl are on board with the use of the DRS (deposit return scheme) Machine. Which they plan to put into their stores across Ireland. This scheme involves charging customers a small deposit on plastic and aluminium bottles at point of purchase. The customers will then claim their deposit back once they return their used plastic and aluminium bottles to the machine. This is a fantastic incentive to encourage recycling. It is currently rolled out across Europe and will go live in Ireland on February 1st 2024.
Lidl Supplier Awards
Lidl then took the time to acknowledge the sustainability efforts enforced by their suppliers by hosting a supplier awards. Several suppliers were nominated under different categories and winners were presented with a ‘Better Together’ plaque. This brought a light, fun aspect to the evening.
J.P Scally, CEO of Lidl Ireland, and Northern Ireland then finished with closing remarks and thanking everyone for their sustainability efforts with the encouragement to continue the efforts and to extend to new heights in coming months.
The Lidl Sustainability Summit provided a platform for companies to align with Lidl’s sustainability journey and see everybody’s commitment to the larger mission of building a more sustainable and responsible future. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in the pursuit of environmental stewardship.
As the global community continues to grapple with the challenges of sustainability and climate change, the efforts and initiatives showcased at the Lidl Sustainability Summit stand as an inspiring example of how businesses can be a force of good.
