By installing 20kW of solar PV the majority of power needed is self-produced. The solar PV panels convert the sun’s energy into electricity. The system has reduced the farmers energy bill by €3,500 per year, with a pay back of 7 years and with installation taking only one week.
Electricity cost is one of the major expenses when rearing 20,000 chickens in broiler houses and it was important that the outlay expense would be covered with the electricity generated. The ultimate goal was to see bottom line rearing costs improved.
