Located in Collinstown in Co. Westmeath a 300 year old period mansion has installed a 145kW HPK-RA Gilles woodchip boiler. This biomass boiler replaces their original oil boiler, reducing their carbon consumption by 53 tonnes. The boiler provides 100% of their space heating and hot water requirement and is connected to their original heating system. A barn was converted into a 60 meters cubed fuel store and boiler house, no planning permission was required. The fuel is feed by means of a swept arm and transport auger. Woodchip fuel is purchased from a local supplier. As Gilles woodchip boilers can burn a range of different fuels including: miscanthus, willow, wood logs etc. they have a choice of fuel suppliers ensuring supply. This project was funded by SEAI reheat grant scheme. Enerpower provide a maintenance contract that includes an annual visit and emergency response.
