The Community Hall in Glenealy Village, Co. Wicklow underwent a deep retrofit project in 2011. The aim of the project was to extend the life of the building and improve comfort for users while building in sustainability in terms of energy usage.
Enerpower provided an Einsiedler Solar Thermal installation for domestic hot water and a Gilles Biomass Boiler for space heating. The Gilles boiler is unique in that it can be fuelled by local sustainable firewood when staff or volunteers are available to load it, but starts and runs automatically on wood pellets should firewood not be available.
This flexible system allows the community to benefit from the cost & sustainability advantages of local firewood, but also to retain the benefits of a fully automatic heating system. Further project information is available at www.glenealy.ie
