O’ Connor nurseries in Gorey, Co. Wexford has installed a 900kW Gilles HPK-IK wood chip boiler for their new site, to heat glasshouses. A purpose built boiler house and under ground fuel store was built. As the fuel store is underground, fuel can be tipped in on delivery which is a very efficient design. The fuel is fed to the boiler using a walking floor system. The walking floor design is the most reliable and robust fuel transport design. Through installing the Gilles wood chip boiler, O’ Connor nurseries have saved 645 tonnes of carbon per year.
