1.5MW Roof Top Solar Array – Sam Denningan & Co UC

Enerpower have recently installed a 1.5MW roof top solar pv array, making it Ireland’s largest rooftop array. We are now delighted to share some of the details of this project. The aim of this project was to reduce the energy consumption, carbon foot print and environmental impact of Sam Dennigans food transport business in line with the countries renewable energy goals.
The project started with an energy audit followed by investigations and preliminary designs into different Green Energy Technologies and culminated in the selection of a 1.5MW Solar PV Array to be installed on the existing warehouse roofs.

Sam Dennigan is primarily a shipping company with cold storage facilities for passion fruit to a potato, from asparagus to zucchini, Sam Dennigan and Company handles the full range of fresh produce. The company pride themselves in quality and freshness of their food. This quality and freshness is a manifestation of the time invested by the Company in seeking out and creating strong links with top-quality producers, and working together as partners to deliver the highest quality

In order to offset some of their carbon footprint Sam Dennigan engaged Enerpower to Engineer, Procure and Construct a Solar PV Array that could help them reduce their carbon foot print, in line with the countries renewable energy targets, as well as give them a financial benefit. The goals of this project were:

• Reduce Imported Electricity with Solar PV & off set Carbon Footprint
• Ensure Zero Export to the National Grid as per agreement with ESB
• Maintain a minimum impact on clients business & ensure a low construction Carbon Footprint

Enerpower are delighted to have worked with the team at Sam Denningan & Co on this project and release the following footage with regards to the stages involved in this project.

Enerpower were delighted to have worked on this project. This project was completed safely, on time and under budget. ESB Witness testing has confirmed that the installation complies with the Zero Export and Grid Protection Requirements and the construction activities had minimal impact on the clients works.

Phase 1: Site Set Up which involved protective scaffolding & timber walk way mounted. The mounting system was installed and inverter frames and inverter installation was started. DC containment was also started at this point.

Phase 2: The mounting system installation was completed as well as the inverter frame and inverter installation. During phase 2 of this project, DC wiring was started and the DC containment was completed.

Phase 3: The PV Panel installation was completed and the permanent walkway to the inverters was installed including a shipman’s ladder. During this phase of the project, the DC wiring was completed and the DC containment installation was complete. At this point in the project. The AC cabling was started and the AC & DC testing was also started.

Phase 4: the AC cabling was completed, along with the AC & DC testing. The MV outage was completed to install the new switch gear and G10 protection was added. The LV outage was completed and the scaffolding and site set up was removed.

In total the following items were used on this project.

The designed system included:
• 4420 PV Panels
• 42km of DC Cabling
• 3km of AC Cabling
• 10 Inverters
• MV Switchgear
• LV Switchgear
• Export Limitation & G10 Protection to ESB Standards
• 1 Full Site Shut Down with no impact to clients operations
• Generator interfaces including DSU Scheme Integration
• Shipmans Ladders & Walkways

Enerpower were delighted to have worked on this project. This project was completed safely, on time and under budget. ESB Witness testing has confirmed that the installation complies with the Zero Export and Grid Protection Requirements and the construction activities had minimal impact on the clients works.
