Enerpower have recently completed the installation of a 5.6MWp commercial solar farm at Eli Lily facility in Dunderrow, Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland. Eli Lily approached Enerpower to undertake an audit of their energy usage and to see how Solar PV could help them reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprint. This project saw Enerpower fully engineer, procure, and construct the bespoke solar panel solution. Enerpower suggested that a solar farm would be the best option for Eli Lily based off the energy audit that was conducted.
Enerpower was founded in 2005 and is now one of Ireland’s leading renewable energy efficiency companies. Enerpower deliver high quality products and services with unparalleled sector knowledge guaranteeing you and your business energy savings. Enerpower provide a wide range of cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions for industrial, commercial, agricultural customers working across both Ireland and Northern Ireland
The ground-mounted Solar Farm will produce up to 5.6MW of power allowing Lilly to reduce its annual use of electricity from carbon sources by almost 6GWH and its carbon footprint by 2,350 tonnes. Comprised of 12,600 individual solar panels and costing €5m the development was a collaboration between Lilly and Enerpower and received support from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
A Zimmermann ground mount system was used during this installation along with 5.6MWp of longi solar panels. The Zimmermann frame is made with high tensile steel, strict galvanisation standards, with a large surface area and a unique V form. Longevity and durability of this ground mount system is ensured through high quality components and a certified galvanised process.
ABB string inverters were also installed. These three-phase string inverters deliver a sin-in-one solution to enhance and optimise solar power generation for ground mounted installations. This new high power string inverter delivers up to 185kVa at 800 Vac, this not only maximises the return of investment for this ground mount installation but also reduces balance of system costs. Enerpower team can ensure that there is maximum efficiency for Eli Lily onsite.
Enerpower 5.6MWp installation has contributed to a reduction in energy used for the national grid at the facility. In addition, the system has reduced the facilities carbon footprint in line with the countries 2030 renewable energy targets. This project has also seen Eli Lily benefit financially.
Eli Lily was officially opened on the 26th of July by The Taoiseach, Micheál Martin to read more about the opening click here
