South West College Technology & Skills Centre, Enniskillen Co. Fermanagh opened its £7.9M new build, high spec educational and training facility in August 2009. The building contains nine workshops, 16 classrooms, training and meeting rooms and canteen facilities.
A large biomass boiler, together with air tightness achieved in the construction, has provided a 60% reduction in the normal fossil fuel requirements. The estimated payback of the biomass boiler is 4.5 years. A 360kW Gilles HPK-IK pellet boiler was installed. A purpose built 80 meters cubed fuel store was constructed. Pellet fuel is fed to the boiler using a blower. The boiler conserves 172 tonnes of carbon. Enerpower have been contracted to provide a boiler maintenance contract which includes an annual site visit and emergency callout.
