St. Patrick’s hospital is run by the HSE and serves the elderly population of south Tipperary. In conjunction with the SEI, the HSE is committed to achieving energy savings of 33% by 2020 as set out in the public sector white paper “Delivering a Sustainable Energy Future for Ireland”. The HSE identified a number of specific actions to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, which includes a heating fuel conversion programme and in some instances to upgrade existing fossil fuel burners to biomass.
The HSE replaced their oil boiler with a Gilles 240kW HPK-IK wood pellet boiler. The pellets are blown into a purpose built fuel store. The biomass boiler was integrated into the existing heat system. An oil boiler remains on site as a backup. This project has conserved 168 tonnes of carbon per year. Enerpower have been contracted to provide maintenance which includes an annual site visit and emergence callout.
Biomass boilers are an ideal soulution for heating hospitals and nursing homes. Enerpower take pride that we offer a complete turnkey solution, please contact us for more information.
