Enerpower in collaboration with North Tipperary County Council have utilised spare capacity in the existing boiler at the Thurles leisure centre to provide heat to the nearby Source Arts and Library building.
This project which was wholly financed by Enerpower will offer the Arts centre and Library savings in the long term heating of the building. The objective of the project was to substitute the existing oil boilers with heat from the biomass boiler while leaving the oil boilers in place as a backup. This allows the building to be heated in the main by sustainable green energy in the form of biomass while retaining the oil boilers should there be a need to utilise them.
The main body of the works were completed in four days with commissioning and handover taking an additional week.
Maurice O’Byrne Contracts Manager with Enerpower described this project as a win win for everyone involved as it offers a cheaper greener more sustainable heating solution to one of the most prominent buildings in Thurles. It also provides additional work for the local wood chip supplier and other indigenous industries.
