Lidl continue their commitment to their sustainability programme with the installation of solar panels in a further ten stores. Enerpower are delighted to partner with Lidl to assist with achieving their environmental goals. Enerpower have installed 150kWp Solar Panel system at 10 different Lidl locations across the island of Ireland. These Solar Panels systems will greatly reduce the energy consumption of all 10 Lidl stores. The Lidl stores are high energy users as their refrigerator systems operate 24/7.
The following Lidl stores were successfully completed by Enerpower:
- Kanturk
- Thurles
- Baganelstown
- Corbally Road
- Bray
- Buncrana Road Derry
- Ballymoney
- Limavady
- Drogheda
- Tuam
Enerpower have also completed rooftop solar panel installation for Lidl distribution centre in Newbridge Co. Kildare. At the time of completion this install was the Irelands largest solar panel array. This solar install consisted of 4,364 solar panels. Read more detail on the recent installation here.
The first of these installations took place at Lidl Kanturk in Co. Cork, as the original building was being replaced with a modern store. Since installation in December 2020, the 400 Longi solar panels have generated 112.38 MWh of energy for the Kanturk store. Lidl know the positive impact renewable energy has on the environment. These stores mainly consisted of new builds however, Enerpower have also retrofitted numerous Lidl stores such as Tullamore, Donegal, Youghal, Tallaght.
“A Better Tomorrow” is Lidl’s strategy for sustainability. As a member of the Bord Bio Origin Green Programme, Lidl have committed to a five-year sustainable development plan with numerous targets that Lidl reports on each year. Lidl believe that sustainability is an ongoing journey and plan to do everything they possibly can to lessen their impact on the environment. Their Corporate Social Responsibly goals are to provide a safe and nurturing environment and to positively contribute to the communities in which they operate their 209 stores. Lidl aim to make their operations carbon neutral by 2025 whilst also reducing their emissions by 46% by 2030. Lidl have also stated they are committed to producing recyclable, reusable, or refillable packaging on 100% of their own brand products by 2025. Lidl also provide electric vehicle charging points across 32 of their stores and office buildings. It is evident that Lidl are working hard to achieve their sustainability targets.
During the installation of 150kWp systems, 400 Longi 375W Solar Panels were installed to each of the Lidl rooftops along with a Van Der Valk mounting systems. These solar panels have a high conversion efficiency and have excellent performance providing power output on cloudy days.
Huawei Inverters used throughout each install provide a maximum efficiency of 98.8%. The installation of this solar panel systems allows for remote monitoring so the Enerpower team can ensure that there is maximum efficiency for Lidl onsite. There is also an instore display screen which will show the system performance, savings and environmental savings to Lidl customers and staff.
Each solar power systems was designed by an in house by an Enerpower Engineer. Each installation took approximately 5 days and were fully project managed by an Enerpower engineer and the projects were completed with no incidents or accidents reported.
Enerpower are delighted to have helped Lidl along to achieving their sustainability targets. Enerpower look forward to working with Lidl again in the near future.
